Julie A. Connolly, DDS, MPH, MS

Dr. Connolly received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Columbia College in New York City. She continued at Columbia University and received her D.D.S. from the School of Dental and Oral Surgery and a Masters in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health, as part of a dual degree program. After graduation from dental school, she completed a general practice residency at Mount Sinai Hospital here in New York and then a periodontal residency at Columbia where she received a Masters of Science in Periodontics. Dr. Connolly was awarded The Melvin L. Morris Award for Excellence in Postdoctoral Periodontics at the completion of her periodontal residency program. Dr. Connolly is board certified and a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Connolly has had extensive training in all aspects of periodontal and implant therapy including: non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapy, periodontal plastic surgery, soft tissue grafting, implant site preparation, sinus grafting, tooth extraction and implant placement. In addition to working in private practice with her father, Dr. Thomas Connolly, she is an Assistant Clinical Professor and part-time faculty member at Columbia. There she teaches periodontics to dental students and residents in the undergraduate and post-graduate dental clinics.

In addition to her clinical duties at Columbia, Dr. Connolly lectures to the dental students and residents on Periodontics. She leads hands-on and didactic seminars on Periodontal Microsurgery for the periodontal residents at Columbia and NYU. Dr. Connolly is also co-director of the Ethics program for 3rd and 4th year dental students at Columbia.

Dr. Connolly is also involved with lecturing locally and nationally. Topics she has addressed include: periodontal plastic surgery, interdisciplanary case presentation, tobacco cessation and periodontal microsurgery. In January of 2010, she and her father presented two half day programs on Periodontal Microsurgery at the Yankee Dental Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Connolly is a fellow in the New York Academy of Dentistry and has recently been inducted to the American College of Dentists. She is the Secretary of the Alumni Associateion of the Columbia School of Dental Medicine and a trustee of the Columbia Periodontal Alumni Association. She is on the Board of Directors of the New York County Dental Society as well as Chair of their Membership Committee. Dr. Connolly also is a volunteer dentist for Donated Dental Services.

Outside of the office, Dr. Connolly is an avid runner who frequently participates in road races. This past November she completed her second NYC Marathon. She also enjoys playing tennis, reading and crosswords.
